Women's Soccer Clinches WIAC Championship

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's team shutout UW-River Falls by a score of 5-0 on Saturday afternoon. This win makes the team the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season champions.
 
The Warhawks improve their season record to 12-5-3 and 5-1-1 in the conference while the Falcons drop to 9-9-1 and 2-4-1.
 
UW-W controlled the entire game, scoring right away in the sixth minute. Anna Boyd (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) recorded the solo goal to put the Warhawks on the board as they never looked back.
 
The team was able to use a foul called on River Falls to get the ball to the Falcons' side of the field in the 14th minute. Anna Brodjian (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) recorded the goal with an assist from Elli Wahlberg (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North).
 
The last goal of the half came in the 32nd minute when Katy Kusswurm (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) was able to pass the ball to Carli Nehls (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North), finding a gap in the box to put the Warhawks up 3-0.
 
Brodjian found her second goal in the 58th minute of play. Curtis was credited with the assist as she was able to get the ball past Falcon defenders.
 
In the 77th minute, Brodjian earned herself a hat trick, recording her third and the team's final goal of the game. The game would end with a 5-0 score. 
 
The Warhawks outshot the Falcons 16-8, including 13-4 on goal. Sara Klimisch (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail High School and Academy) was credited with four saves.
 
UW-Whitewater will return as the No. 1 seed in the WIAC Tournament. They received a bye for the first round on Tuesday, and will host the lowest remaining seed on Thursday at 6 p.m.
