Women's Soccer Wins WIAC Opener

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team opened Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a win against UW-Oshkosh, extending their win streak to five matches. 
 
The Warhawks improve their season record to 7-4-2, while the Titans drop to 3-7-1.
 
Both teams came out aggressive, as Anna Boyd (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) recorded a shot on goal in the fifth minute of play. UW-Oshkosh recorded its first shot on goal in the 18th minute.
 
Elizabeth Klein (Burlington, Wis./Catholic Central) and Elli Wahlberg (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) recorded shots on goal in the 19th and 23rd minutes. 
 
Boyd tallied an additional shot on goal in the 32nd minute before scoring in the 38th minute. Olivia May (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) passed to Boyd, and she was able to break away from the Titan defenders to score from the left side of the goal.
 
The second goal came early in the second half, when Carli Nehls (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) assisted Wahlberg on a shot in the 50th minute.
 
The Warhawks continued to control the game through the remainder of the second half. Despite UW-O's five shots in the remainder of the second half, it was unable to get any closer.
 
Goalkeeper Sara Klimisch (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail High School and Academy) held off the Titans as she was able to record four saves throughout the match for her fourth shutout of the year.
 
UW-Whitewater will host UW-La Crosse for its second WIAC matchup on Saturday at 6 p.m.
