Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Guinn Reaches 100 Wins on Senior Night

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team secured a win on Senior Night by defeating Wartburg 2-0 at Fiskum Field.

This win also marks Coach Tony Guinn's 100th win as the program's head coach. He has a current record of 100-40-19 (.668) since 2012. He is now third all-time in coaching wins, just three games behind Bob Fiskum.

The Warhawks improve their season record to 13-4-1 while the Knights drop to 7-7-2.

UW-W controlled the game from the very start, playing aggressively and attacking early.

The first goal came in the eighth minute when Henry Raymonds (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) kicked the ball high across the box and Hozai Ceballos (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) was able to head the ball to the upper left corner of the box to put the Warhawks up 1-0.

After a shot from Raymonds in the 24th minute, Mariano Carini (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) was able to use the goalkeeper's rebound to score in the lower right corner.

Steven Wright (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) had a strong showing in the second half, tallying shots in the 29th and 30th minutes and a shot on goal in the 36th minute.

Wartburg's offense did what they could to try to put goals on the board, and tallied an impressive nine shots in the second half, but the Warhawk defense, including goalkeeper Jake King (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West), kept them at bay.

King recorded nine saves, tying his career-high that he had just reached on Wednesday.

Besides Raymonds' two assists, he also had three shots, including two on goal, throughout the game. Trevor Johnson (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) was another offensive standout, tallying two shots on goal.

Ceballos, Raymonds and fellow seniors Alex Heath (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn), Kevin Mesich (West Allis, Wis./West Allis Hale), Garrett Morgando (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North), Taylor Ortiz (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East), Casey Thompson (Verona, Wis./Verona) and Brian Zimdars (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy) were recognized at halftime of the contest.

UW-Whitewater will be back in action on Tuesday for their final regular season game of the season. They will be playing at Loras at 5 p.m. in Dubuque, Iowa.
