The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2019 indoor season Saturday at the Karl Schlender Invitational at Kachel Fieldhouse in Whitewater.
The Warhawk men collected 274.50 points to top their seven-team field, while the women also finished first out of seven teams with a team total of 231 points.
Junior
Alex Duff (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.42, and his mark of 8.40 in the prelims currently ranks among the top 20 in NCAA Division III according to TFRRS.org.

Noah Verheyden (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Preble), junior
Seth Zimdars (Ripon, Wis./Ripon) and senior
Braeden Michael (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls) recorded a 10:49.96, good for first place and a spot among the nation's top five.
Senior
Dylan Ferger (Beloit, Wis./Beloit Turner) started his campaign with a 6-06.75 (2.00 meters) in the high jump, good for a top 10 national mark. Junior
Zach Jasinski (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) won the pole vault with a 15-05.50 (4.71 meters), which ranks among the country's top 10 heights.
Junior captain
Tanner Stephens (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa) led the field in the triple jump with a 46-00.75 (14.04 meters), which is among the nation's top 15.
Kuehl won the 600-meter run in 1:24.12, and sophomore
David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) finished first in the 800-meter run with a 2:01.28. Sophomore captain
Landon Zimmerman (New Glarus, Wis./New Glarus) swept the throwing events, taking the shot put with a distance of 48-00.00 (14.63 meters) and the weight throw with a 52-10.75 (16.12 meters).
On the women's side, junior Abbie Felton got off to a strong start in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line first in 58.82 seconds, good for a top 10 mark in NCAA Division III.
The Warhawks' distance medley relay team also finished in a top 10 national time as sophomore Jessie Braun, junior Maddie Matty, sophomore Sarah Daley and junior Lauren Oleniczak registered a 14:15.33, good for third place.
Sophomore Shelby Nickels collected the nation's No. 2 mark to date in the long jump with an 18-09.25 (5.72 meters), good for first place.
Other event winners included freshman Kailey Reynolds in the 60-meter dash (8.10), senior Tiffany Bianco in the 600-meter run (1:46.94), junior Ashton Doll in the high jump (5-03.00 / 1.60 meters), sophomore Sydney Davidson in the pole vault (11-01.00 / 3.38 meters) and junior Ally Bachara in the weight throw (46-00.00 / 14.02 meters).
The two teams visit Ripon College this Friday for the Red Hawk Opener. Field events begin at 3:30 p.m., followed by running events at 4 p.m.
