The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team cruised to a win over UW-Stevens Point without losing a single match.
The Warhawks (3-1 overall, 3-0 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) took the lead through
Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) and
Julie Martin (Morton, Ill./Morton), who played 1 Doubles. Kitchell's serve was unstoppable, and they didn't drop a single game.
UW-Stevens Point (2-8, 0-4 conf.) fought back in the #2 doubles match. The freshman duo of
Molly Rueth (Wheaton, Ill./Glenbard West) and
Olivia Kraft (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) got off to a good start for the Warhawks but started to struggle later on in the match. The Pointers took four games, including breaking Rueth's serve to make the score 7-4. Â But the next game belonged to the Warhawks, ending the match at 8-4.
Katie Toomire (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) and
Madalyn Bigelow (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) played the #3 doubles match, and quickly won 8-0.
The Warhawks clinched the match after
Sabrina Palavra (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) and
Bryce Bigelow (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) won their singles matches in the #1 and #6 positions respectively, and neither player lost a single game.
Allie Miller (Sturtevant, Wis./Union Grove) finished her game next, winning in straight sets (6-1, 6-1). This is her first singles win in conference, which brings her record to 4-3 on the season.
Freshmen
Jessica Minkov (Schiller Park, Ill./East Leyden) and
Elsie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) also won their matches. Minkov finished hers first (6-0, 6-0), and Ha soon followed suit, winning 6-3 and 6-1.
The last match to finish was #2 singles. Junior
Madeline Slicker (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) took the first set 6-4, but needed an extra game to finish the match, which ended at 7-5.
The Warhawks conference season continues with a trip to UW-Oshkosh on Tuesday.
