The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis teams split a pair of dual matches Saturday at Wangerin Courts.

The Warhawks (2-1 overall, 2-0 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) started the day with a 6-3 triumph over UW-La Crosse to remain unbeaten in the league and extend their conference dual win streak to 91. The victory also gave head coach Frank Barnes the 300th of his career, pushing his career women's record to 300-103 (with Carleton loss added). Last season, he picked up career win No. 300 with the men and owns a career record of 313-145.

UW-Whitewater took on perennial contender Carleton (Minn.) later in the day, falling 7-2 to take its first loss of the 2018 season.

Against the Eagles (5-1, 2-1), the Warhawks grabbed two of the three doubles matches to claim a 2-1 advantage. Seniors Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) and Julie Martin (Morton, Ill./Morton) posted an 8-2 win at the first position, while sophomore Allie Miller (Sturtevant, Wis./Union Grove) and freshman Olivia Kraft (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) broke the 1-1 tie with a key 9-8 (5) victory at No. 3.

UW-Whitewater extended its lead to 4-2 midway through singles action thanks to straight-set wins by Kitchell at No. 1 and freshman Jessica Minkov (Schiller Park, Ill./East Leyden) at No. 6.

Martin clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at the second position, and junior Madeline Slicker (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) picked up a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 5 to improve to 4-2 in singles for the year.

In the match against Carleton (1-0), Kitchell played a role in scoring both Warhawk points in the contest. She downed Kristina Conrad 6-2, 6-0 at the top singles slot after pairing with Martin for a 9-7 triumph at No. 1 doubles.

Martin extended her No. 2 singles match to three sets but was outlasted 1-6, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (11-9).
