The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team extended its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual win streak to 90 matches Friday afternoon with a 7-2 triumph over UW-Eau Claire at Wangerin Courts.

Senior captain Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) and sophomore Sabrina Palavra (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) posted victories in both doubles and singles to lead the Warhawks (1-0 overall, 1-0 WIAC).

After the Blugolds (0-1, 0-1) took a 1-0 match lead, Kitchell paired with freshman Molly Rueth (Wheaton, Ill./Glenbard West) at the No. 1 doubles slot for a 9-8 (3) triumph to put UW-Whitewater on the board. The Warhawks took the lead for good as Palavra and freshman Olivia Kraft (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) combined for a 9-8 (6) win at the third position.

Senior Julie Martin (Morton, Ill./Morton) and freshman Elsie Ha (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) collected victories at the Nos. 2 and 4 spots, respectively, to give UW-Whitewater a 4-1 advantage. Martin tallied a 6-1, 6-2 triumph, while Ha won in similar fashion with a 6-2, 6-1 score.

Kitchell clinched the match for the Warhawks, claiming four straight games in the second set after trailing 5-3 to record a 6-0, 7-5 victory at the No. 1 position.

Other UW-Whitewater winners included Palavra at No. 3 and junior captain Madeline Slicker (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) at No. 6. Palavra was narrowly edged in the second set before returning the favor in a tightly-contested third-set super tiebreaker for her win, while Slicker also recovered from a second-set loss for her first triumph of the year.

The Warhawks continue action Saturday with the annual eight-team Warhawk Invitational at Wangerin Courts. Check back to the UW-Whitewater women's tennis schedule page and follow Warhawk tennis on Twitter for the latest information as inclement weather is expected to hit the Whitewater area.
