The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team fell to the University of Chicago Sunday at Wangerin Courts.
The No. 34 nationally-ranked Warhawks (21-7) dropped their second dual on the season to No. 10 Chicago in a 5-0 loss. UW-Whitewater was in the midst of its 11th straight NCAA Tournament appearance and sixth Sweet 16 in program history.
The Maroons (19-4) claimed all three doubles matches and earned the first two singles decisions to punch their ticket to the national quarterfinals. Senior
Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) won in her first set in a tiebreaker against the region's No. 2 player, Marjorie Antohi, before the match was called in the second set due to decision being reached.
The Warhawk women's tennis team has concluded play for the season. Individually, seniors
Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger),
Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) and junior
Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) were selected to play in the NCAA Division III Championship. McGuire and Wallace were selected as a doubles pair, while Kitchell will play in singles. They will compete May 24-26 at Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif.
