The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams competed Saturday at the Drake Alternative Meet at Rex Foster Track in the final tune-up for the two programs prior to next week's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.
The seventh-ranked Warhawk men were led by senior
Parker Witt (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North), who surged into the top 10 in a pair of sprint events. He moved to No. 1 in the nation in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.42 seconds, good for first place Saturday, and vaulted to sixth in the 200-meter dash with a 21.42, good for third.
Sophomore
Christian Jackson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa West), who ranks second in NCAA Division III in the 110-meter hurdles, won the event Saturday with a time of 14.37. Senior
DuVaun Goodlow (Plainfield, Ill./Central) claimed the high jump with a career-best height of 6-11.00 (2.11 meters), good for third in the country.
Senior
Matt Green (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) won the long jump with a distance of 22-07.75 (6.90 meters). Other top-three finishers included junior
Noah Verheyden (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Preble), who placed second in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.39, and sophomore
Cole Trumble (Darlington, Wis./Darlington), who finished third in the javelin throw with a toss of 164-07 (50.16 meters).
Junior Celeste Madda led the women with a pair of national top 10 performances. She recorded a 12.04 in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash to move to seventh in NCAA Division III, and added a mark of 24.50 in the 200-meter dash, good for a first-place finish and the No. 3 result in the nation.
Junior Abbie Felton collected her season best mark in the 200 to finish as runner-up to Madda with a 25.16, good for 23rd in NCAA Division III.
Junior Jordan Tokarski won the 100-meter dash finals with a 12.45. Sophomore Megan Hering crossed the finish line first in the 400-meter dash in 1:01.14, and senior Lindsay Chase finished as runner-up in the hammer throw with a 167-10 (51.16 meters).
The 4x100-meter relay team of senior Chelsie Bence, Felton, Tokarski and Madda combined to finish first with a time of 48.48 seconds.
Other top-three finishers included freshman Emery Podowicz in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.77), freshman Sydney Davidson in pole vault (11-03.50 / 3.44 meters), and freshman Shelby Nickels in the long jump (16-11.50 (5.17 meters).
The two-day WIAC Outdoor Championships begin Friday, May 4, at 12 p.m. at UW-River Falls.
