The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team emerged victorious in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's tennis tournament Sunday in La Crosse, Wis.

The Warhawks (16-8) battled with UW-Eau Claire (18-4) and won, 6-3, and stormed back from being down 4-0 to claim a victory from the host UW-La Crosse (14-6) by a score of 5-4.

Against the Blugolds, the Warhawks claimed two out of three doubles matches, with senior
Zane Navratil (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) and junior
Jimmy Engelhart (Brookfield, Wis./East) earning a hard fought point in the no. 1 slot. Junior
Brandon Dechter (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel Catholic)Â and senior
Matt Zurowski (West Bend, Wis./East) (West Bend, Wis./East) followed with a win in the second match to head into singles up 2-1. Zurowski and sophomore
Zach Wood (Downers Grove, Ill./South) quickly notched points in the fifth and sixth slots, allowing Navratil to clinch the first dual in a 7-6 (11), 6-2 match in the second slot.

The Warhawks found themselves down early against UW-La Crosse, being swept in a trio of close doubles matches before Dechter was forced to drop from his singles match due to injury. Senior
Grant Thompson (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) notched the first much-needed point in a 7-5, 6-2 match in the first slot, while Zurowski and Navratil grabbed points in the second and fourth matches.  Engelhart battled back from being down in the second set to tie the dual at four apiece, leaving it to Wood in the sixth slot to clinch the dual. The sophomore claimed the first set 6-2 before dropping the second set to force a decisive third set to decide it all.  Wood controlled the third set to the finish line, winning the set, the match, and the dual for the Warhawks.

The Warhawks will be back on the courts for their final regular season dual of the season on Sunday, April 29. They play at 4 p.m. against No. 35 Coe in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
