The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in their final tune-up prior to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships Saturday in a dual meet at UW-La Crosse.
The Warhawk men were defeated 156-77, while the women were downed 190-51.
Senior
David Joerres (New Berlin/St. Thomas More) led the men with a first-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 10:36.33. He also placed second in both the 1- and 3-meter diving events, tallying a season-best score of 145.80 on the 3-meter board.
Junior
Jonathan Jaworski (Waukesha, Wis./South) placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.04 seconds, while junior
Peter Loftus (Janesville, Wis./Craig) finished as runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle with a 49.04. Freshman
Jake Herlache (West Bend, Wis./Grafton) placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:49.02, and junior
Chandler Lewis (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) collected a mark of 4:57.28 in the 500-yard freestyle, good for second place.
Sophomore
Alexis Olson (Marengo, Ill./Marengo) led the women with a first-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley, touching the wall in 2:18.77. Sophomore
Meredith Gustafson (Brookfield, Wis./East) finished as runner-up in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:26.46, and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Olson, junior
Erin Hawker (Chanhassen, Minn./Hutchinson), senior
Michaela Matthys (Crystal Lake, Ill./McHenry West) and sophomore
Bailey Weston (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) placed second with a result of 1:44.27.
The three-day WIAC Championships begin Thursday, Feb. 15, at Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Wis. Check back during the week of Feb. 12 for a preview of the event.
