The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's swimming and diving teams combined to win nine individual events Saturday afternoon but each fell short of knocking off UW-Stevens Point in their first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual meet of the season.
The Warhawk women were edged 153-147, while the men were downed 210-80.
Senior Erin Hawker (Chanhassen, Minn./Hutchinson) and junior Renata Schlomann (New Berlin, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels) led the women, each having two event wins. Hawker was first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:34.65) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.55). She was also fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:06.40. Schlomann won the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.09) and the 100-yard freestyle (55.53).
Junior Alexis Olson (Marengo, Ill./Marengo) and sophomore Olivia Theobald (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap) also claimed individual wins. Olson took the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:12.67 and Theobald placed touched the wall first in 25.97 in the 50-yard freestyle.
Schomann, Hawker and juniors Meredith Gustafson (Brookfield, Wis./East) and Bailey Weston (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) combined to win the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 4:10.28.
Sophomore Sydney Olson (Cudahy, Wis./Cudahy) won the 3-meter dive with a score of 186.45.
On the men's side, sophomores Tyler Chatterton (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) and Zachary Noll, along with junior Jordan Kreitzman (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King) placed first in one event. Chatterton touched the wall in 1:00.99 in the 100-yard breastroke. Noll was first in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:57.45. And Kreitzman finished the 1000-yard freestyle in a mark of 10:14.49.
Freshman
Tristan Whiting (Hayden, Idaho/Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy) was a runner-up in two events, swimming a 4:59.17 in the 500-yard freestyle and 10:25.20 in the 1000-yard freestyle.
UW-Whitewater heads to the Carthage Swimming Classic in Kenosha, Wis. on Nov. 29.
