No. 18 Volleyball Sweeps Regular Season Finale

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team completed regular season play at home Sunday afternoon versus Concordia (Wis.) at Kris Russell Volleyball Arena.  They celebrated the 30th anniversary of the 1988 Final Four team prior to the contest.  
 
The No. 18 Warhawks swept the Falcons (18-9) by a score of 25-16, 25-12, 25-20.
 
In the first set, the Warhawks (23-6) went on an 11-3 run to take an 19-13 edge in the set.  The Warhawks ended the set with a 25-16 score.  The Warhawks offense continued hot into the next set, with a 15-2 run netting them the 25-12 set.  The third set found the Warhawks in a tighter affair, leading 19-16 late after a 3-0 Warhawk run.  They rode the late run to a 25-20 victory. 
 
Junior outside hitter Rachel Butterfield (Milton, Wis./Milton) posted 10 kills and a .474 hitting percentage in the sweep.  Senior middle hitter Kelley Berk (Cedarburg, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels) contributed a team high eight blocks and a .429 hitting percentage. 
 
Freshmen setters KellyAnn Sotiros (New Berlin, Wis./West Allis Hale) and Paige Manssen (Bull Valley, Ill./McHenry West) had 23 and 12 assists respectively. 
 
Senior outside hitter Amanda Spera (Antioch, Ill. /Antioch) added in 5 blocks while freshman outside hitter Erin McNeil (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) put in four of her own to go along with seven kills.  Senior libero Brittany Robinson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) contributed 21 digs.
 
As a team, UW-Whitewater held Concordia to a -.056 hitting percentage for the match. 

The 1988 Warhawks made the program's first-ever appearance in the Final Four. Several players, coaches and staff were in attendance to be recognized.
 
The Warhawks next return to the courts to host a semifinal game for the WIAC Volleyball Tournament at 7 p.m. Thursday.  Their opponent is currently to be decided.
