The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team traveled to Elmhurst, Ill. Friday evening to play a pair of games in the Elmhurst Invitational.

The No. 20 Warhawks claimed their second sweep of the season against host Elmhurst (Ill.) in a 25-12, 25-17, 25-21 affair, before falling to top-ranked Calvin (Mich). 25-23, 25-17, 25-16.Â

In the first set against host Elmhurst, the Warhawks jumped out to an early 7-3 lead. They continued their relentless barrage throughout the set, going on a 14-6 run to take a 21-9 lead late and taking the 25-12 set with ease. The offense stayed strong into the second set, starting with a 7-3 lead and expanding it throughout the set on the way to a 25-17 victory.Â

The Warhawks found stiffer competition in the third set, battling back and forth with the Blue Jays to a 11-10 advantage midway through. A 5-1 run gave them a late 18-14 lead, which they carried to a 25-21 victory to clinch the sweep.

The Warhawks as a team hit .343 for the match. Freshman outside hitter
Emma Aske (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) led the squad with 10 kills. Senior middle hitter
Kelley Berk (Cedarburg, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels) had a team-leading five blocks while junior middle hitter
Ashton Doll (Lancaster, Wis./Lancaster) contributed three for the match as well as a .455 hitting percentage on her seven kills.Â

KellyAnn Sotiros (New Berlin, Wis./West Allis Hale) and
Paige Manssen (Bull Valley, Ill./McHenry West) had 20 and 13 assists respectively. Junior outside hitter
Rachel Butterfield (Milton, Wis./Milton) Â hit .467 for the match for seven kills while freshman outside hitter
Erin McNeil (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) tallied seven kills and hit .400.

Against the Knights, the Warhawks kept pace with them through the early part of the first set. A 3-0 run brought them into a 15-15 tie with Calvin later on. The Warhawks fell just short in the set 25-23. The Warhawks continued to stay close to Calvin, but gradually fell behind as the set went on and dropped the set 25-17.Â

The Warhawks stayed close with the Knights in the early third set, tied 11-11 halfway through. Once again, they couldn't hang on and fell to a late 6-1 Calvin run to finish the match.Â

Butterfield hit .500 for the Warhawks for the match for her team-leading eight kills. Sotiros led the team with 16 assists. Senior outside hitter
Amanda Spera (Antioch, Ill./Antioch)Â collected seven kills, and Aske registered six kills, eight digs and six assists.
Robinson paced the defense with 13 digs.

The Warhawks complete play at the Elmhurst Invitational tomorrow at 10 a.m. versus No. 13 Hope (Mich.).
