The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team had an eventful Saturday, playing an away match at UW-River Falls before making another trip to play an away match at UW-Stout. The final score of both matchups was 9-0.
With the victories, the Warhawks (6-1 overall, 6-0 WIAC) extended their winning streak in dual matches against Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents to 95 matches.
The first match started at 9:30 a.m. but it wasn't too early for the doubles team of
Allie Miller (Sturtevant, Wis./Union Grove) and
Paige Nierman (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Stevenson). They played #2 doubles and swept their match, 8-0.
Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) and
Julie Martin (Morton, Ill./Morton) were the #1 doubles team for today. The score sat at 3-2 after five games. However, Kitchell and Martin won three of the next four to make the score 6-3. The duo finished strong, winning the match with a final score of 8-5.
Freshmen
Jessica Minkov (Schiller Park, Ill./East Leyden) and
Molly Rueth (Wheaton, Ill./Glenbard West) the third doubles match of the day and took momentum into the singles portion. Kitchell played well at the #1 singles spot, winning her game 6-3.
The No. 2 singles slot belonged to Martin, who won her match, 6-0, 6-1.
The third singes position belonged to
Sabrina Palavra (Skokie, Ill./Niles North), and she played a dramatic match against River Falls' Hannah Andresi. The sophomore won her first set 6-1 but ran into trouble in the second. The match was even all the way until 6-6, and Palavra won the tiebreaker to prevail, 6-1, 7-6 (4)Â
Nierman,
Madeline Slicker (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) and Elsie all won in straight sets at the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 positions to complete the sweep of UW-River Falls.

The team hopped back on the road and took on UW-Stout for its second conference match of the day. They arrived at Menomonee, and began the match at about 3 p.m.
The #1 doubles spot belonged to Palavra and Nierman. They were met with tough resistance but managed to pick up a win. The final score of their pro-set was 8-4.
The #3 doubles team was made up of Ha and
Bryce Bigelow (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper). The team started slow, but took command at the end, winning their last four games in a row for an 8-1 triumph.
Martin took the top singles spot against Stout's Linsey Thisius. She was fantastic, winning the first set 6-0 and taking a 3-0 lead in the second. She did drop one game, but the second set finished 6-1, giving Martin the win.
Palavra was the #2 singles player. She was scheduled to play Annie Sandry. The score was 2-2 before Sandry had to pull out due to injury, giving Palavra the win.
Minkov and  Miller won their singles matches at #4 and #6, respectively. Minkov finished her match with a final score of 6-1, 6-1, and Miller claimed her match 6-1, 6-0.
All in all, the Warhawks swept the second game, 9-0. They cemented their top spot in the WIAC with a perfect 6-0 record on the season. The next Warhawk tennis match will be the WIACÂ Championship, which will take place in Madison. The tournament begins Saturday at 1 p.m.
