The No. 12 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's track and field team posted several impressive results Friday night at the annual "Squig" Converse Invitational at Kachel Fieldhouse.
Sophomore
Alex Duff (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) led the team with a first-place finish in the heptathlon on a school-record score of 5109, the No. 1 score in NCAA Division III. His mark of 23-06.75 (7.18 meters) in the long jump places him among the nation's top 10 in the event. Duff also holds a top 10 result in the 60-meter hurdles.
Other event winners included senior
Jonah Nelson (Dodgeville, Wis./Dodgeville/Mineral Point), freshmen
David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) and
Brian Kuehl (Geneva, Ill./Geneva). Fassbender won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:47.46, while Kuehl improved on his top five national mark in the 800-meter run with a 1:54.59. Nelson crossed the finish line in 4:20.85 to win the 1-mile run.
Sophomore
Christian Jackson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa West) finished as runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles with an 8.29, and sophomore
Zach Jasinski (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) moved into the top 15 in the country in the pole vault with a 15-01.00 (4.60 meters), good for second place.
Senior
Matt Green (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) improved his national top 25 result in the long jump, placing third in the event with a 22-08.00 (6.91 meters). He also collected a personal record result of 47-05.75 (14.47 meters) in the triple jump to finish third and move into the top 10 in the nation in the event.
The Warhawks visit UW-Stevens Point next Saturday, Feb. 3, for the Point Invite at 10:30 a.m.
