Senior Austin Quartullo (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) and sophomore Riley Kauzlaric (Coal City, Ill./Coal City) reached the championship match in their respective weight classes Saturday to lead the No. 8 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team to a third-place finish at the Spartan Mat Classic at Manchester University in North Manchester, Ind.
 
The Warhawks scored 94.5 points to finish in the top quarter of the 13-team tournament.
 
Quartullo, seeded fourth at 149 pounds, knocked off top seed Jordan Napier of Manchester, who is listed with Quartullo in the honorable mention category of the D3wrestle.com rankings, by a 12-7 decision in the semifinal. He was defeated in the final by Austin Bethel of Wabash to finish the day with a 4-1 record, including one major decision.
 
Kauzlaric, unseeded at 197 pounds, bested Thomas More's James Caniglia, listed in the honorable mention category by D3wrestle.com and the bracket's second seed, by a 9-6 decision to reach the final, where he was edged in a 10-5 decision against No. 1 seed Tyler Maclellan of Baldwin Wallace.
 
Freshman Brogan Howard (Prineville, Ore./Crook County) finished fifth at 197 after posting a 4-2 record with three pins.
 
Junior Sonny Schieldt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton), sophomores Nick Graziano (Midlothian, Ill./Oak Forest) and Zachary Hasselberger (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) each finished sixth in their respective brackets. Hasselberger downed top-seeded AJ Belden of Wabash in his first bout of the day and earned a pin to reach the semifinal round. Schieldt finished 4-2 with one pin and one major decision at 157, and Graziano compiled a 5-1 mark with two pins, two technical falls and one major decision.
 
Sophomore Wilder Wichman (Watertown, Wis./Johnson Creek) tallied four victories, including one by fall, to place eighth at 149.
 
UW-Whitewater returns to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Thursday with a home dual against No. 12 UW-La Crosse. Competition begins at 7 p.m. at Kachel Gymnasium.
