The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams began the 2018 indoor season Saturday with several strong results at the annual Karl Schlender Invitational at Kachel Fieldhouse in Whitewater.
The Warhawks won eight events on the men's side and five on the women's.
Senior
Parker Witt (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) crossed the finish line first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.91 seconds, currently the second-fastest in NCAA Division III.
Senior
Brett Harms (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) and freshman
Brian Kuehl (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) helped UW-Whitewater sweep the middle distance events. Kuehl won the 600-meter dash in 1:24.28, while Harms took the 800-meter run with a 2:06.07.
Junior
Dylan Ferger (Beloit, Wis./Beloit Turner) recorded a height of 6-06.75 (2.00 meters) to win the high jump and achieved the No. 7 mark in the nation. Senior
Matt Green (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) posted a 22-07.00 (6.88 meters) to take the long jump with the 18th-best result in Division III, and sophomore
Tanner Stephens (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa) registered the top triple jump with a 43-09.25 (13.34 meters). Sophomore
Zach Jasinski (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) moved into the top 15 in the pole vault with a 14-11.50 (4.56 meters), good for first place.

Clinten Woerishofer (Appleton, Wis./North) and junior
Braeden Michael (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls) won the distance medley relay with the nation's ninth-fastes time of 11:13.27.
Sophomore
Julio Perez (Watertown, Wis./Kettle Moraine) placed second in the shot put with a distance of 52-03.25 (15.93 meters), good for fourth in the nation.
Sophomore Abbie Felton led the women with a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash, which she completed in 58.86 seconds, good for fourth in the nation after conversion for track size. Senior Lindsay Chase tallied the No. 21 weight throw in Division III with a 50-10.00 (15.49 meters), good for first place.
Other event winners included senior Sara Fuller in the 600-meter dash (1:49.71), freshman Jessie Braun in the 800-meter run (2:36.49) and sophomore Baily Hornstein in the pole vault (10-05.50 / 3.19 meters).
Freshman Shelby Nickels made a strong debut for the Warhawks, finishing second in the long jump with a result of 17-09.00 (5.41 meters), good for No. 14 in the nation. The distance medley relay team of Braun, freshmen Sarah Daley, Jenny Kinjerski and Kennedy Hauser placed second in the race with a 14:12.20, good for eighth in NCAA Division III when converted for track size.
