OSHKOSH, Wis. – The No. 7 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team shook off a first-set loss Wednesday night to down UW-Oshkosh 17-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-19 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at Kolf Sports Center.
The Warhawks (11-3 overall, 2-0 WIAC) trailed midway through the second set, but turned the match around by posting a pair of 5-0 runs to close the period on an 11-3 run to level the match at 1-1.
In the third, UW-Whitewater forced a pair of timeouts by the Titans (8-10, 0-2) with runs to take leads of 9-5 and 16-11. UW-Oshkosh got no closer than four the rest of the way as the Warhawks took a 2-1 advantage.
UW-Whitewater scored the first five points of the fourth set and held a 15-9 lead before the Titans tallied six straight points to tie the stanza at 15-15.
The Warhawks closed the match on a 10-4 run, claiming eight of the final nine points, to earn their first win at UW-Oshkosh since 2011.
Senior right side hitter
Sydney Racky (Walworth, Wis./Big Foot) led the offense with 12 kills and added nine digs. Senior middle hitter
Courtney Wagner (Dekalb, Ill./Dekalb) posted eight kills, and junior outside hitter
Amanda Spera (Antioch, Ill./Antioch) and sophomore outside hitter
Rachel Butterfield (Milton, Wis./Milton) collected seven kills apiece.
Junior setter
Elizabeth Niestrom (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) finished with 33 assists and two blocks. Junior defensive specialist
Brittany Robinson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) recorded 20 digs and two service aces to lead the defense.
UW-Whitewater continues conference action Saturday with a match at UW-River Falls. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
