The Warhawk men's and women's track and field teams opened up their outdoor season at the Augustana Viking Invitational on Saturday in Rock Island, Illinois. The men's team missed winning the meet by just one point, finishing second to Augustana College with 261 points. The women finished third with 100 team points. Northern Michigan won the women's meet with 169 points.
For the men on Saturday, an impressive five Warhawk freshmen placed in the top eight in the 200 meter dash in their outdoor debuts, led by
Josh Iraci (Franklin, Wis./Franklin), who won the event in a time of 22.36.
Alec Masters (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington) took third in 22.63,
Oren Henderson-Zintz (Madison, Wis./La Follette) was fourth in 22.63,
Justin Prostinak (Milwaukee, Wis./Lake Country Lutheran) took fifth in 22.84, and
Zach Jasinski (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) finished in eighth in 23.01.
Three Warhawks placed in the top four in the high jump. Senior
DuVaun Goodlow (Plainfield, Ill./Central) won with a jump of 6-6.75 (2.00 meters), sophomore
Dylan Ferger (Beloit, Wis./Beloit Turner) placed second with a mark of 6-4.75 (1.95 meters), and junior
Chanler Leonard (Dodgeville, Wis./Dodgeville/Mineral Point) finished fourth with a mark of 6-2.75 (1.90 meters).
The Warhawk men were also led by freshman
Christian Jackson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa West), who opened up his outdoor season with a win in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 15.00, and junior
Jack Bullis (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater), who won the javelin throw with a mark of 175-6.50 (53.50 meters).
In addition to his win in the 200 meter dash,
Josh Iraci (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) also placed second in the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.03. In the 400 meter dash, freshman
Alec Masters (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington) placed fourth in a time of 50.43. A trio of Warhawks, junior
Jonah Nelson (Dodgeville, Wis./Dodgeville/Mineral Point), junior Alec Meixelsperger, and junior
Brett Harms (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) went 2-3-4 in the 1500 meters. Nelson ran 4:00.59, Meixelsperger 4:00.95, and Harms 4:01.16.
Several Warhawk men had a solid outdoor debut in the long jump.
Chanler Leonard (Dodgeville, Wis./Dodgeville/Mineral Point) placed third in the long jump with a leap of 21-8.25 (6.61 meters), senior
Zak Loess (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) finished fifth with a mark of 21-4.25 (6.51 meters), sophomore
Dylan Ferger (Beloit, Wis./Beloit Turner) placed sixth with a mark of 21-2.50 (6.46 meters), and sophomore
Matt Green (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) was seventh with a mark of 21-1.50 (6.44 meters).

Grant Loess (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) finished 1-2 in the triple jump with marks of 46-1.50 (14.06 meters) and 44-1.50 (13.45 meters), respectively. In the pole vault, freshman
Zach Jasinski (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) finished third with a mark of 14-9 (4.50 meters). Junior
Aron Schwartz (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) also placed fifth in the event with a mark of 14-3.25 (4.35 meters).
Senior
Levi Perry (East Moline, Ill./United Township) took third in the hammer throw with a mark of 171-5.25 (52.25 meters). Junior Jason D'Amico also finished fifth in the event with a mark of 147-2.50 (44.86 meters). Junior
Theron Baumann (Monona Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) placed third in the discus throw with a mark of 161-8.75 (49.29 meters), while junior
Josh Selje (Rio, Wis./Rio) finished fifth in the javelin throw with a mark of 145-6.25 (44.35 meters).

The Warhawk women had several solid performances to open their outdoor season. Freshman
Sydney Rossow (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) won the 100 meter hurdles in 14.96 and took second in the triple jump with a leap of 37-5.25 (11.41 meters). Sophomore
Brittany Sykes (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) won the javelin throw with a mark of 109-2 (33.27 meters). In the pole vault, junior
Courtney Pohlman (Janesville, Wis./Craig) won the event with a jump of 11-9.75 (3.60 meters) and seniors
Ana Liska (New Berlin, Wis./West) and
Leah Richter (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) tied for second place with a mark of 11-3.75 (3.45 meters).
Abbie Felton (Burlington, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) opened her outdoor season with a second place finish in the 400 meter dash in a time of 57.44. Felton followed that up with a third place finish in the 200 meters in 25.77.
Senior Genny Rose Stringer took third in the shot put with a mark of 40-11 (12.47 meters) and also placed third in the discus with a mark of 145-11.75 (44.49 meters). Junior
Erika Sternard (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) placed third in the high jump with a mark of 5-1 (1.55 meters).
