The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team continues non-conference play on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m. against Belhaven (Miss.) University at Perkins Stadium.
A free student tailgate, including food, games and a live DJ, is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Coulthart Family Pavilion. All student attendees will also receive a free t-shirt. The event is sponsored by the University Center, University Housing, UW-W Dining Services and the NCAA CHOICES grant.
Saturday's game will be broadcast live online or on Charter channel 989 in southern Wisconsin by UWW-TV. Fans can listen to the game on KOOL 106.5 FM WKCH in the Whitewater area or online at 940wfaw.com. Live stats will also be available.
The Warhawks opened their 123rd season of football last Saturday with a 51-3 home triumph over The College of New Jersey. The team totaled 481 yards of offense and held the Lions to 186 on defense. UW-Whitewater tallied 27 of its 41 first-half points in the second quarter to earn its 25th consecutive home win and 13th straight victory in a season opener.
UW-Whitewater moved up one spot to No. 2 in the latest D3football.com Top 25. The team garnered 588 points and four first-place votes. The Warhawks were ranked second in Lindy's Sports Division III Preseason Top 25 and third in both The Sporting News' preseason national rankings and the D3football.com Preseason Top 25.
Belhaven, a member of the American Southwest Conference, took a two-possession lead with three minutes left in the fourth quarter and held on for a 28-25 victory at cross-town rival Millsaps (Miss.) on Sept. 1. The Blazers posted 334 passing yards and converted 3-of-5 fourth downs to offset 11 penalties and an eight-minute disadvantage in time of possession.
SERIES
Saturday's game is the second meeting between the two teams. UW-Whitewater rushed for 302 yards and forced three turnovers in a 62-6 triumph last season at Belhaven. The win was the first for head coach Kevin Bullis. Jordan Ratliffe (Milwaukee/Milwaukee Vincent) rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns to lead the offense, and Jordan Strasburg (Fort Atkinson/Fort Atkinson) registered a team-high seven tackles, including one for a loss, to pace the defense.
WHAT'S NEXT
Following a bye week, the Warhawks wrap up regular season non-conference play on Saturday, Sept. 24, against Morningside (Iowa), the No. 3 ranked team in the NAIA. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. on Hall of Fame Day and Alumni Day at Perkins Stadium.

NOTABLE
- UW-Whitewater has won 11 consecutive regular season non-conference games dating back to a 34-7 victory in a non-conference game against UW-Stevens Point. The Warhawks' most recent non-conference regular season loss was a 7-6 setback against Buffalo State on Sept. 15, 2012.
- Saturday's game will be the first of the 2016 season with UW-Whitewater's student body back on campus. Classes began on Wednesday morning.
- This week is the Warhawks' 41st consecutive week to appear in the D3football.com Top 25. UW-Whitewater has spent 20 weeks ranked No. 1 in the nation in the poll.
