No. 14 Volleyball Closes UW-Whitewater Invite 3-0

The No. 14 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater concluded the two-day UW-Whitewater Invitational with two more victories Saturday at Kris Russell Volleyball Arena.
 
The Warhawks (12-3 overall) downed St. Norbert 25-13, 25-15, 25-19 before finishing the tournament with a 25-14, 25-20, 25-17 triumph over Carroll.
 
UW-Whitewater finished the weekend at 3-0 after tallying a three-set win over 13th-ranked Christopher Newport (Va.) on Friday night.
 
Following the conclusion of the tournament, junior middle hitter Courtney Wagner (Dekalb, Ill./Dekalb) and sophomore libero Brittany Robinson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
 
Against St. Norbert (5-11), UW-Whitewater held the Green Knights to a minus-.024 hitting percentage and was lifted by 10 service aces during the match.
 
Wagner contributed 11 kills in just 15 attempts with one error (.667 hitting percentage) and added a team-best three blocks. Senior setter Staci Hasler (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls) posted 26 assists and three service aces, and senior outside hitter Lauren Pfeifer (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) registered eight kills.
 
Robinson led the defense with 14 digs and a team-best four service aces.
 
In the match against Carroll (5-10), the Warhawks hit a season-high .395 on offense, including a .500 mark in the first set.
 
Wagner and Pfeifer tallied 12 and 11 kills, respectively, to lead the offense. Wagner added a team-best four blocks, and Pfeifer collected seven digs and three blocks. Freshman outside hitter Alexandra Bialo (Greendale, Wis./Greendale) chipped in nine kills, and sophomore setter Elizabeth Niestrom (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) tallied a career-high 21 assists to go along with five digs.
 
Robinson paced a balanced defense with 12 digs. Senior defensive specialist Tessa Weber (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Tremper) recorded eight digs.
 
UW-Whitewater returns to WIAC play Wednesday at No. 11 UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m.
