The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team completed a fantastic weekend Sunday evening with a 3-1 victory over 17th-ranked DePauw (Ind.) in a non-conference contest at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Ill.
The Warhawks (7-1) posted their second consecutive win over a ranked opponent after knocking off No. 3 Washington-St. Louis by a 1-0 tally on Saturday and sixth straight victory overall.
Junior midfielders
Marie Lesperance (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South),
Morgan Beaty (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) and sophomore midfielder
Mackenzie Serbousek (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Cedar Rapids Prairie) provided the goals for UW-Whitewater.
Freshman
Sara Klimisch (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail High School and Academy) improved to 6-0 for the year, totaling three saves in the effort.
Lesperance registered the first goal for the Warhawks in the fourth minute off a pass from senior forward
Brianna Reid (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek).
UW-Whitewater continued to apply pressure in the first half, holding edges in shots (5-3) and corner kicks (2-1) over DePauw (4-2-1).
Beaty started the second-half scoring for the Warhawks off an assist from senior forward
Carly Pottle (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East), finding the back of the net off a tap-in behind the keeper to give the team a 2-0 lead in the 60th minute.
After four shots, including two on goal, over the next 12 minutes, Serbousek made it 3-0 with a shot from the left side of the box in the 73rd minute.
The Tigers recorded their lone goal of the match on a penalty kick in the 79th minute, but UW-Whitewater was able to hold its two-goal advantage for the remainder of the match.
The Warhawks continue non-conference play Wednesday at Augustana. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Rock Island, Ill.
