The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team swept a pair of opponents Saturday at Wangerin Courts.
 
The Warhawks (6-1 overall, 2-0 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) defeated conference rival UW-La Crosse 9-0 before besting Principia (Ill.) by an identical score.
 
Against UW-La Crosse (5-1, 2-1), juniors Alicia Beck (Bismarck, ND/St. Mary's Central) and Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) put UW-Whitewater on the board with an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Senior Megan Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and sophomore Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) tallied an 8-4 triumph at the No. 1 position, and senior Rachel Siemon (Crystal Lake, IL/South) and junior Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) finished the doubles sweep with an 8-3 victory at No. 3.
 
Kitchell was first to finish in singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the second slot. Wallace clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at the fourth position.
 
Beck posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 5, and junior Brittany Goebel (McHenry, IL/West) added a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 6. Talyansky collected a 6-3, 7-5 triumph at No. 3, and Humphreys fought through a first-set loss for a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) victory at the No. 1 position.
 
In the match against Principia (0-2), the Warhawks dropped only two games combined at the three doubles positions. Humphreys and Kitchell were 8-0 winners at No. 1, Talyansky and Siemon completed an 8-1 triumph at No. 2 and Wallace teamed with junior Gabriella Gregorio (Roselle, IL/Bartlett) for an 8-1 victory at No. 3.
 
Freshman Madeline Slicker (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) was first on the board in singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6, and Wallace sealed the decision with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 3.
 
Other straight-set winners included Kitchell at No. 1, Talyansky at No. 2, Goebel at No. 4 and junior Kassie Alexander (Waukesha/South) at No. 5.
 
UW-Whitewater visits St. Peter, Minn., starting Friday for the three-day Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional Championships.
