Day One Results
Zach Stockheimer (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) won the hammer throw and
Robert Starnes (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Preble) won the long jump to lead the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's track and field team on day one of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by UW-Whitewater at Rex Foster Track.
The Warhawks reside in third place out of eight teams with 38 points. UW-Platteville is in the lead with 51, and UW-La Crosse is right behind them with 45.50.
Stockheimer tossed the hammer 188' 8" (57.50m), a season best and 5th farthest in NCAA Division III this season, to earn ten points for his team.
Levi Perry (East Moline, Ill./United Township) added a sixth place finish in the event for another three points.
Starnes turned in a distance of 23' 4" (7.11m) in the long jump to win his second career conference championship. His first came in the high jump during the 2016 indoor season.
Cameron Magee (Richland Center, Wis./Ithaca) took sixth in the event to earn the Warhawks another three points.
Brett Harms (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) turned in a career best time in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:14.68) to take third place and earn six team points. His time ranks him 16th best in NCAA DIII this season. Teammate
Scott Wolter (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) finished seventh in the event for an additional two team points.
Rounding out the scoring on day one was
Jack Bullis (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) with a fourth place finish and five team points in the javelin. Bullis recorded a distance of 171' 1" (52.16m).
In other action,
Parker Witt (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) qualified for the finals in the 100 and 200 meter dash.
Mike Judd (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) and
CJ Klingbeil (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) will compete in the finals of the 100 meter hurdles after qualifying in Friday's preliminaries, while Bryce and
Trent Rudebeck (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) qualified for the 400 meter dash and 800 meter run, respectively.
Bryce Rudebeck (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) recorded a season best time in the 400 clocking in at 48.52, 34th fastest in NCAA DIII.
Competition will resume at 10 am on Saturday.
