The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams competed in three last chance meets this week in final preparation for next week's NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The Warhawks took part in the North Central Gregory Final Qualifier on Wednesday and Thursday in Naperville, Ill., visited the UW-La Crosse NCAA Qualifier Thursday afternoon and competed at the Augustana (Ill.) Twilight Qualifier on Thursday evening.
The UW-Whitewater men, ranked third in the nation entering the week, registered several season best performances.
The Warhawks' 4x100-meter relay team of juniors
Connor Larson (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North),
Zak Loess (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North),
Grant Loess (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) and sophomore
Parker Witt (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) vaulted to 17th in the nation with a season-best mark of 41.45 seconds.
Senior
Bryce Rudebeck (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) tallied a season-best time of 48.39 in the 400-meter dash
Rudebeck joined freshman
Connor Arneson (Oshkosh, Wis./West), Larson and freshman
Trent Rudebeck (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) for the team's No. 1 mark of the season, a 3:15.51 in the 4x400-meter relay.
Senior
Zach Stockheimer (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) improved his career-best result in the hammer throw, posting the No. 5 toss in the nation with a 193-11 (59.10 meters) at Augustana.
The Warhawk women competed in one event at North Central, two at Augustana and four at UW-La Crosse.
Junior Meredith Heller and senior Candice Wayne placed first and third, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles. Both were ranked among the top 15 in the country in the event entering Thursday's meet.
Juniors Genny Rose Stringer and Amanda Strupp each improved their best marks in the discus. Stringer posted her personal record in the event with a 163-08 (49.90 meters), good for fourth in NCAA Division III. Strupp tallied a career best 149-08 (45.63 meters), good for 15th in the nation.
The NCAA will release full lists of men's and women's qualifiers for the NCAA Outdoor Championships this Saturday
