The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team saw their season come to an end in the third round of the NCAA Division III tournament with a 5-3 loss to Washington University (Mo.) Sunday at the Tao Tennis Center in St. Louis. The Bears, ranked 6th in the country, improved to 18-5 with the win and advance to the final eight. UW-W finishes the season with a 23-7 record, the third most wins in school history.

Scott Butler (Eagan, MN/Eagan) and
Rithwik Rajshekhar Raman (Chennai, Tamil Nadu-India/SAIDS British Education) won their two doubles match for UW-W's first victory. Teammates
Jake Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and
Michael Treis (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central), ranked sixth in the Central Region, followed with a close win at one doubles, 9-7.

WashU's four, five and six singles won to give the Bears a 4-2 lead

Jake Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) cut the WashU lead to 4-3 after rallying back from a first set lost to win the second and third at one singles. Humphreys is 13-10 in singles play this season.

Michael Treis (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central), ranked 18th in the Central Region, battled 11th-ranked Johnny Wu to a 7-6 loss in set one and ran out of gas in set two as the Bears clinched the match.

Raman was leading 6-4, 5-6 in his match at three singles when the match concluded.

This is the third time in school history that the Warhawks have advanced to the third round.

Jake Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) received the opportunity to extend his season by earning a selection into the 32-man draw of the NCAA DIII Individual Championship. This is third time Humphreys has earned spot in the season's final tournament. Competition will take place May 26-28 at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
