Men’s Tennis Caps Regular Season With Win at Coe

The No. 16 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater recorded an 8-1 victory Sunday at No. 34 Coe, wrapping up the team's 2015-16 regular season in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
 
The Warhawks (22-6 overall), who are ranked fourth in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, find out if they receive a bid to the NCAA Division III Team Tournament via press release on Monday, May 9, at 11 a.m. Central Time on NCAA.com.
 
In its win Sunday over the Kohawks (20-6), the eighth-ranked team in the region by the ITA, UW-Whitewater swept the doubles matches to take a 3-0 advantage into singles.
 
Senior Scott Butler (Eagan, MN/Eagan) and junior Rithwik Rajshekhar Raman (Chennai, Tamil Nadu-India/SAIDS British Education) were first on the board, tallying an 8-2 triumph at No. 2. At the third position, senior Michael Schnarr (Madison/Memorial) and sophomore Grant Thompson (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) registered an 8-4 victory.
 
At No. 1, seniors Jake Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and Michael Treis (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) withstood a late rally by Coe after being up 6-4, taking the match by tiebreak, 9-8 (8).
 
Humphreys, slotted eighth in the Central Region, started the Warhawks in singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Brady Anderson, the region's No. 6 singles player.
 
Sophomore Zane Navratil (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) clinched the contest for UW-Whitewater with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph at the fourth flight.
 
Treis and Raman picked up victories at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions, respectively. Treis was as 6-4, 6-3 winner, while Raman posted a 6-1, 6-2 triumph.
 
Butler capped Warhawk scoring with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at the sixth slot.
