For the ninth year in a row, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team is headed to the NCAA Division III tournament. The Warhawks won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Team Tournament Saturday at Premier Tennis and Fitness in Janesville and earned the conference's automatic berth. This time around the Warhawks topped UW-Oshkosh 5-0 in the semifinals and UW-La Crosse 5-0 in the finals.

The two wins on Saturday propelled the Warhawks to a 22-5 overall record and they have now won 72 straight dual matches over WIAC opponents.

The Warhawks got out to a strong start in both matches, taking a 3-0 after doubles play.
Megan Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and
Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) moved to 31-4 this season with two wins at one doubles.
Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) and
Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) won twice at two doubles to improve to 25-2, and
Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) paired with
Ashley Miller (Racine/Union Grove) at three doubles for the first time and won a pair of matches 8-0 and 8-5.

Miller, a senior, was recognized between the semifinals and finals on Saturday. Miller is 8-4 in singles play this season and 15-5 in doubles. For her career she is 23-12 in singles and 50-19 in doubles.

Kitchell and Talyansky were the first singles players to win in both matches, thus clinching victory. In the semifinals Kitchell, at one singles, won in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. Talyansky played at two singles in the semis and also won in straight sets.

In the championship match Kitchell won in straight sets at two singles while Talyansky made short work of her opponent at four singles.

Kitchell improves to an astonishing 39-1 this season while Talyansky is 25-8.
