Whitewater, Wis. – The No. 6 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team tallied two runs in the bottom of the first inning to seal a 2-1 victory over Carthage College in a non-conference affair at Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium.
 
The Warhawks (21-6 overall) recorded four hits offensively, and two different pitchers combined to hold the Red Men (15-16 overall) to just one run despite five hits. The Warhawks' staff stranded five base runners and struck out three batters.
 
Sophomore right-hander Heath Renz (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) started the contest, giving up one run on five hits in seven innings of work. Junior lefty James Georgakas (Ellsworth, Wis./Ellsworth) tossed two scoreless frames to pick up his first save of the season.
 
Junior second baseman Steve Chamberlain (Rockford, IL/Guilford) and sophomore center fielder Daytona Bryden (Rockton, IL/Hononegah) each recorded a base hit and a run scored on the afternoon to lead the UW-Whitewater offense. Bryden scored on a passed ball, while Chamberlain scored on a sacrifice fly off of senior catcher Dane Burman (Milton, Wis./Milton)'s bat.
 
Freshman third baseman Cal Aldridge (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) and senior right fielder Trent Diekvoss (Beaver Dam/Beaver Dam) were the other two Warhawks to record a hit.
 
UW-Whitewater returns to action this weekend as they travel to La Crosse take on UW-La Crosse in a huge four game series starting on Saturday. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
