Behind fifteen top five finishes in thirteen events, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's track and field team finished third out of thirteen teams at the Meet of Champions hosted by Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois on Saturday. UW-W finished behind North Central College and the host school.
Zach Stockheimer (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) took home the lone first place finish after tossing the hammer a season high 56.5 meters (185' 4"). That distance is the eighth best in Division III so far this season.
Theron Baumann (Monona Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) earned 14 points for the Warhawks with third place finishes in the shot put and discus. His distance of 51.41 meters (168' 8") in the discus is the third farthest in Division III.
Parker Witt (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) finished second in the 200 with a time of 21.38, the third fastest in the country.
Brett Harms (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) turned in a time of 9:14.89 in the 3000 meter steeplechase, the 12th fastest in the country, to earn five team points for the Warhawks.
Chanler Leonard (Dodgeville, Wis./Dodgeville/Mineral Point) and
Jack Bullis (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) earned third place finishes in the high jump and javelin throw, respectively, while
Grant Loess (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) finished third in the 100 meter dash.
UW-Whitewater set season best marks in 13 different events on Saturday.Â
The Warhawks will compete again next Saturday when they host the Drake Alternative Meet at Rex Foster Track.
