The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team improved to 21-6, and earned bragging rights among Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools with men's tennis, with 9-0 wins over UW-La Crosse and UW-Eau Claire in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on Saturday. The Warhawks topped the host school, UW-Oshkosh, Friday night 9-0.
In both of Saturday's matches doubles competition was tighter than singles. UW-W's number one doubles team of
Jake Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and
Michael Treis (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) improved to 17-8 this season, defeating their UW-L opponent 8-5 and their UW-EC opponent 8-4. Number two doubles won 8-2 in both matches and three doubles won 8-5 against UW-L and 8-6 against UW-EC.
Nine different Warhawks played singles in the two matches on Saturday.
Against UW-L,
Matt Bisbee (Chicago, IL/Marist) and
Matt Zurowski (West Bend, Wis./East) downed each of their opponents in three sets while Treis,
Rithwik Rajshekhar Raman (Chennai, Tamil Nadu-India/SAIDS British Education), Navratil and
Rory Calabria (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) won in straight sets.
In the UW-EC match, Bisbee and Zurowski again took three sets to get to victory while Humphreys, Navratil,
Michael Schnarr (Madison/Memorial), and
Scott Butler (Eagan, MN/Eagan) won in straight sets.
Navratil, Bisbee and Zurowski were the three Warhawks to play singles in both matches. Navratil moves to 21-6 this season to lead the team in wins. Bisbee is just behind him at 20-11.
The Warhawks will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa on May 1st for their final regular season match against Coe College beginning at 1 pm.
