Starnes Leads Men’s Track and Field at UW-Platteville

The No. 2 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's track and field team won three events and posted a number of strong marks Saturday at the UW-Platteville Invitational.
 
Sophomore Robert Starnes (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Preble) led the Warhawks, placing first in the high jump and the long jump. He recorded a high jump mark of 6-10.25 (2.09 meters), and added a long jump result of 24-03.50 (7.38 meters), good for a personal record.
 
Four others placed in jumps for UW-Whitewater. Sophomore Matt Green (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) was fourth in the triple jump with a 44-03.50 (13.50 meters), and freshman Dylan Ferger (Beloit, Wis./Beloit Turner) tied for sixth in the high jump with a 6-00.50 (1.89 meters). Sophomore Cameron MaGee and junior Zak Loess (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the long jump. MaGee tallied a 22-00.25 (6.71 meters), and Loess posted a 21-11.75 (6.70 meters).
 
Sophomore Jonah Nelson (Dodgeville, Wis./Dodgeville/Mineral Point) was the lone competitor in the 1,500-meter run to crack four minutes with a 3:59.55, good for first place.
 
Sophomore Theron Baumann (Monona Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) finished fourth in the shot put with a 51-07.00 (15.72 meters) and sixth in the discus with a 153-08 (46.83 meters).
 
Senior Zach Stockheimer (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) and junior Levi Perry (East Moline, Ill./United Township) each placed among the top five in the hammer throw. Stockheimer was third with a 179-03 (54.63 meters) and Perry was fourth with a 173-06 (52.88 meters).
 
Seniors Mike Judd (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) and Bryce Rudebeck (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) were also top five finishers. Judd was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles in a flat 15 seconds, and Rudebeck placed fifth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 48.87.
 
The Warhawks resume action next Saturday at the Augustana (Ill.) Meet of Champions. Competition begins at 10 a.m.
