The No. 21 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team was defeated Friday afternoon by a 6-3 score at 12th-ranked Washington-St. Louis at Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
The Warhawks (20-4 overall) claimed one of three doubles matches and two of six singles positions against the Bears (13-7).
Junior
Megan Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and sophomore
Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) jumped out to a 3-0 lead at No. 1 doubles and held on for a 9-8 (4) triumph over Grace Deering and Jamie Silverberg, the No. 7 ranked doubles team in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Freshman
Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) improved to 36-1 on the season with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles over Silverberg, who is ranked 18th in the region.
Sophomore
Alicia Beck (Bismarck, ND/St. Mary's Central) was also a winner for UW-Whitewater, tallying a 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5) triumph over Kate Lee at the sixth slot.
The Warhawks take on Division II Missouri-St. Louis Saturday at 11 a.m.
