Women’s Tennis Sweeps Carroll, Carthage

The No. 26 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team clinched its ninth straight 20-win season Sunday with identical 9-0 victories over Carroll and Carthage.
 
Playing against Carroll (15-6) at Moorland Racquet Club in New Berlin, junior Rachel Siemon (Crystal Lake, IL/South) and sophomore Brittany Goebel (McHenry, IL/West) were first off the court at No. 3 doubles, tallying an 8-1 triumph.
 
The Warhawks finished the doubles sweep as junior Megan Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and sophomore Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) posted an 8-1 victory at No. 1, and sophomore Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) and freshman Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) combined for an 8-0 win at No. 2.
 
Sophomore Alicia Beck (Bismarck, ND/St. Mary's Central) gave UW-Whitewater a 4-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at the fifth position. Humphreys clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout victory at the No. 1 flight.
 
Neither Kitchell (No. 2) nor Talyansky (No. 3) dropped a game in straight-set wins. Sophomore Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) registered a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 4, and senior Ashley Miller (Racine/Union Grove) recorded a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the sixth slot.
 
Against Central Region No. 16 Carthage (14-7) at Racine Indoor Tennis Club, Humphreys and McGuire highlighted doubles play with an 8-2 triumph at No. 1 over Max Mella and Anjellica Emmanouil, the region's seventh-ranked pair.
 
Wallace and Beck combined for a 9-7 triumph at the second slot, and Kitchell and Talyansky teamed up for an 8-3 victory at No. 3.
 
Kitchell (No. 2), Talyansky (No. 4) and Wallace (No. 5) were first on the board in singles play with straight-set wins.
 
Humphreys (no. 1), McGuire (No. 3) and Beck (No. 6) followed suit with straight-set victories.
 
The Warhawks head to St. Louis next weekend for matches against Washington-St. Louis and Missouri-St. Louis. UW-Whitewater begins the trip with ninth-ranked Wash U. on Friday at 4 p.m.
