The Warhawks (8-4 overall) finished the night off with a 5-4 triumph over Gustavus taking two of three doubles matches and three out of six single matches.
Seniors
Jake Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and
Michael Treis (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) were downed at the number one position by a score of 4-8. Juniors
Scott Butler (Eagan, MN/Eagan) and
Rithwik Rajshekhar Raman (Chennai, Tamil Nadu-India/SAIDS British Education) put the Warhawks on the board with a 8-6 victory at the second doubles position.
Senior
Michael Schnarr (Madison/Memorial) and sophomore
Grant Thompson (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) won their match at the third position by a score of 8-6.
Senior
Matt Bisbee (Chicago, IL/Marist) earned UW-Whitewater's next point, posting a
6-3, 6-3 triumph at the No. 6 singles position. Thompson gutted out a 0-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory at the fourth slot, and sophomore
Zane Navratil (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) sealed the victory for the Warhawks with a 7-6 (7), 6-3 win at the fifth singles position.
"Bisbee gave us momentum with a quick win, and Grant made a huge comeeback after being down 0-6, 0-2, love-40," UW-Whitewater coach
Frank Barnes said. "Navratil dug deep for his second 5-4 clinch of the season (also at Kalamazoo)."
UW-Whitewater will be back in action next Friday, March 11, when it takes on Carthage College at 6:30 p.m. at the Racine Indoor Club in Racine, Wis.
