Warhawks Win, Conclude Spring Break Trip at 9-0

Auburndale, Fla. – The No. 4 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team tallied a run in the third and fourth inning to seal a 2-1 victory over Castleton University (Vt.) in a non-conference affair at Lake Myrtle Park.
 
The Warhawks (9-0 overall) concluded their thirteen-day, nine-game spring break trip with another solid all-around performance.
 
UW-Whitewater recorded seven hits offensively, and two different pitchers combined to hold the Spartans (8-9 overall) to just one run despite eight hits. The Warhawks' staff stranded nine base runners and struck out nine batters.
 
Senior righty Curtis Morgan (Green Lake/Green Lake) started the contest, giving up one run on six hits, while striking out three batters. Junior right-hander Mike Nompleggi (Oconto Falls/Oconto Falls) tossed 6 2/3rd innings of scoreless baseball to earn his first victory of the season. Nompleggi allowed two hits, while striking out six batters in the effort.
 
Junior second baseman finished 2-for-3 with a base-on-balls to lead the UW-Whitewater's offense. Sophomore centerfielder Daytona Bryden (Rockton, IL/Hononegah) and sophomore designated hitter Blake Fleischman (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) each finished with a hit apiece, Fleischman also recorded a key run batted in which scored Bryden in the bottom of the third inning.
 
Sophomore first baseman Trent Borgardt (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee), junior shortstop Jordan Kuczynski (Germantown/Germantown), and freshman Cal Aldridge (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) all recorded a base hit on the afternoon. Borgardt scored a run on an Alex Hallenbeck (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) groundout to the shortstop deep in the hole in the fourth inning to give the Warhawks the lead.
 
UW-Whitewater returns to action this Saturday April 2nd where they will take on Ripon College in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. with the second game to follow.
