Auburndale, Fla. – The No. 8 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team pounded out a season high 17 hits and allowed one run Sunday in a 13-1 victory over St. Thomas (Minn.) at Lake Myrtle Park.
After three scoreless frames, the Warhawks (8-0 overall) tallied three runs in the fourth, three more in the seventh, five times in the eighth, and two in the ninth.
Sophomore right-hander
Lake Bachar (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) shut down the offense of the Tommies (7-3 overall), improving to 3-0 on the season with seven strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Junior lefty
John Olejniczak (Valparaiso, IN/Valparaiso) and sophomore RHP
Heath Renz (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) each tossed an inning of relief. St. Thomas lone run came in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Freshman catcher
Justin Wegner (Naperville, Ill./Central) finished 3-for-4 with one run scored and four runs batted in to lead UW-Whitewater offensively. Wegner came into replace senior catcher
Dane Burman (Milton, Wis./Milton) who came out of the game following a collision at the plate in the fourth inning. Sophomore centerfielder
Daytona Bryden (Rockton, IL/Hononegah) collected two hits and scored two runs, junior shortstop
Jordan Kuczynski (Germantown/Germantown) and senior outfielder
Alex Hallenbeck (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) each registered two hits apiece.
Junior first baseman
Steve Chamberlain (Rockford, IL/Guilford) added four hits, two runs score and a run batted in, while freshman third baseman
Cal Aldridge (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) scored three runs on the afternoon.
The Warhawks return to action Tuesday after a day off Monday to face Casetleton (VT.) at 8 a.m. central standard time. The varsity reserve squad is set to play their final game of the trip immediately following the first game.
