Solid Pitching Moves Warhawks to 7-0

Auburndale, Fla. – The No. 8 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team stayed undefeated Friday with a win against No. 5 Southern Maine University in a non-conference contest played at Lake Myrtle Park.
 
After three scoreless innings, the Warhawks (7-0 overall) tallied a run in the fourth and sixth innings to defeat the Warriors 2-0.
 
Junior left-hander Ankur Shah (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) earned his first victory of the season by pitching a gem, his final line was, eight innings, five hits, and seven strikeouts.
 
Junior RHP Matt Langlie (Mundelein, IL/Mundelein) earned his first save of the season, coming into the ninth inning giving up one hit and one walk before retiring the final batter to seal the victory.
 
Sophomore designated hitter Austin Jones (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) finished 2-for-3 with a key run batted in to lead UW-Whitewater's offense. Sophomore centerfielder Daytona Bryden (Rockton, IL/Hononegah) collected two hits on four attempts.
 
Senior catcher Dane Burman (Milton, Wis./Milton) and junior second baseman Steve Chamberlain (Rockford, IL/Guilford) each recorded a run on the afternoon. Chamberlain went 1-for-3 from the plate.
 
Junior shortstop Jordan Kuczynski (Germantown/Germantown) had a key sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to score Chamberlain and give the Warhawks the lead. Burman drew a walk in the sixth inning only to be drove in thanks to a double by Jones to double the lead for the Warhawks.
 
UW-Whitewater returns to action Sunday afternoon to face regional foe St. Thomas (Minn.) at 2:00 p.m. Central Standard Time at Chain O' Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Fla.
