The Warhawks (16-2 overall) opened the day with a 6-3 setback against Division II Erskine (S.C.) before dealing St. Thomas, which is tied for 10th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Region rankings, its first loss of the season.
Against St. Thomas (11-1), sophomores
Alicia Beck (Bismarck, ND/St. Mary's Central) and
Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) opened match scoring with an 8-6 triumph at No. 2.
The No. 1 doubles team of junior
Megan Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and sophomore
Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) and the third pair of sophomore
Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) and freshman
Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) won by identical 8-4 scores to close the doubles sweep.
Singles winners included Humphreys (6-2, 6-1) at the first position, Kitchell (6-4, 6-1) at the second slot and Talyansky (6-4, 6-1) at the No. 4 flight.
In the match against Erskine (12-3), Humphreys and McGuire teamed up for an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles.
Kitchell and sophomore
Brittany Goebel (McHenry, IL/West) claimed singles wins. Kitchell was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at the No. 1 position, and Goebel tallied a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at the fifth spot.
UW-Whitewater returns to action April 1-2 at the Midwest Invitational at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
