The Warhawks (12-4 overall), ranked sixth in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, shut out Carleton, which is slotted 11th, by a 9-0 score. The team finished the day with an 8-1 defeat of Allegheny, ranked 15th in the region.
Against Carleton (9-4), the No. 2 doubles pair of juniors
Scott Butler (Eagan, MN/Eagan) and
Rithwik Rajshekhar Raman (Chennai, Tamil Nadu-India/SAIDS British Education) combined for an 8-3 win to start scoring. Seniors
Jake Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and
Michael Treis (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) tallied an 8-4 victory at No. 1, and senior
Michael Schnarr (Madison/Memorial) and sophomore
Grant Thompson (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) posted an 8-4 triumph at the third slot.
UW-Whitewater carried its strong start over into singles play, as Treis and Thompson earned straight-set wins at Nos. 2 and 4, respectively.
Humphreys, playing at the top position, and senior
Matt Bisbee (Chicago, IL/Marist), playing at the sixth spot, were next on the board with straight set victories. Sophomore
Zane Navratil (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) was next with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at the fifth position.
Raman closed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3.
In the match against Allegheny (1-7), the two teams started in singles play.
Schnarr recorded a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 4 to start the match, and Navratil and freshman
Rory Calabria (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) put the Warhawks up to three points with wins at Nos. 2 and 6, respectively.
Sophomore
Matt Zurowski (West Bend, Wis./East) made it 4-1 UW-Whitewater with a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) triumph at the fifth position, and Bisbee clinched the match with a 6-4, 7-6 (5) win at the third slot.
Calabria and freshman
Jimmy Engelhart (Brookfield, Wis./East) registered an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles, and Schnarr and Thompson teamed up for an 8-5 win at No. 1.
Butler and Navratil grinded out a 9-7 triumph at No. 2 to complete scoring.
UW-Whitewater continues play in Hilton Head Tuesday against Oberlin (Ohio) at 8 a.m. Central Time.
