The No. 12 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team split a pair of matches against tough competition Saturday on the second and final day of the UW-Oshkosh Invitational.
The Warhawks (15-5 overall) outlasted Trinity (Texas), which is receiving votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association national poll, by a 24-26, 22-25, 25-17, 25-19, 15-5 score.
UW-Whitewater closed tournament play with a 25-20, 25-13, 25-21 setback against No. 18 Elmhurst (Ill.).
Following the conclusion of play, senior outside hitter
Lauren Pfeifer (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) and junior middle hitter
Courtney Wagner (Dekalb, Ill./Dekalb) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
In the match against Trinity (13-5), the Warhawks hit .026 and .172 in their first two sets, but hit .244, .351 and .500 over their final three to dig out of a two-sets-to-none hole.
Junior right side hitter
Sydney Racky (Walworth, Wis./Big Foot) registered a season-high 16 kills on a .500 hitting percentage to go along with four blocks and four digs. Wagner posted 13 kills, four digs and four blocks, and senior setter
Staci Hasler (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls) finished with a near-triple double with eight kills, nine digs and 46 assists.
Sophomore libero
Brittany Robinson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) led the defense with 27 digs, and senior defensive specialist
Tessa Weber (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Tremper) added 15 digs and three service aces from the back row.
Against Elmhurst (12-5), Pfeifer collected 12 kills and two blocks. UW-Whitewater totaled only 11 digs as a team.
The Warhawks resume action Wednesday at Concordia (Wis.). First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Mequon.
