Track and Field Teams Open 2016 Season

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2016 season Saturday at the Karl Schlender Invitational at Kachel Fieldhouse.
 
The Warhawk men placed first with a score of 208, more than 60 in front of runner-up UW-Milwaukee (147.50). The women finished third with a total of 131.50.
 
Sophomore Theron Baumann (Monona Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) won the shot put with a mark of 55-03.00 (16.84m), while sophomore Brett Harms (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) claimed first place in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:27.86.
 
Other individual winners included junior Levi Perry (East Moline, Ill./United Township), sophomores Aron Schwartz (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) and Parker Witt (Appleton, Wis./North). Perry finished first in the weight throw with a 55-10.50 (17.03m), and Schwartz won the pole vault with a 14-03.25 (4.35m).
 
Witt beat out four Division I student-athletes in the 60-meter dash to win the 60-meter dash in 6.89 seconds.
 
The distance medley relay team of sophomore Noah Stamsta (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee), sophomore Jack Bullis (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater), freshman Jack Sauer (Appleton, Wis./West) and junior Scott Wolter (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) posted a time of 10:52.38, good for first place in the event.
 
Sophomore Cameron MaGee (Richland Center, Wis./Ithaca) finished as runner-up in both the high jump (6-06.00/1.98m) and long jump (22-03.25/6.80m). Witt placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.40, and junior Scott Wolter (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) finished second in the 800-meter run with a 2:04.96.
 
Other runners-up included seniors Bryce Rudebeck (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union), Zach Stockheimer (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) and freshman Cole Trumble (Darlington, Wis./Darlington). Rudebeck ran the 400-meter dash in 50.17, Stockheimer recorded a mark of 53-06.25 (16.31m) in the weight throw and Trumble logged a 40-02.25 (12.25m) in the triple jump.
 
On the women's side, junior Leah Richter won the 400-meter dash in 1:00.55. Junior Amanda Strupp finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 55-07.75 (16.96m), and sophomore Erika Sternard was second in the high jump with a leap of 5-03.75 (1.62m).
 
Freshman Celeste Madda placed second in the 60-meter dash in a time of 8.07, just one-hundredth of a second shy of first and ahead of four Division I runners, and was third in the 200-meter dash with a 26.39.
 
Junior Emma Glogovsky was also a runner-up, tallying a 10-06.00 (3.20m) in the pole vault.
 
Junior Aisha Coleman posted a 35-08.00 (10.87m) in the triple jump, good for third place. Junior Megan Linse finished third in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.69 seconds.
 
The Warhawks continue action Friday at the North Central Cardinal Opener. Competition is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m. in Naperville, Ill.
