Volleyball Splits at Edgewood Triangular

The No. 16 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team posted a decisive 25-16, 25-14, 25-21 victory over Lawrence in its second match Saturday at the Edgewood College Triangular in Madison, Wis.
 
The Warhawks (10-2) dropped their opening match 25-16, 25-19, 25-23 against Edgewood.
 
UW-Whitewater allowed Lawrence (1-13) to hit just .025, including a minus-.107 percentage in the opening set. The Warhawks totaled seven service aces and amassed a strong .352 hitting percentage.
 
Junior outside hitter Lauren Pfeifer (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) registered a team-high 13 kills, while sophomore middle hitter Courtney Wagner (Dekalb, Ill./Dekalb) collected nine kills. Sophomore right side hitter Sydney Racky (Walworth, Wis./Big Foot) tallied eight kills, while junior middle hitter Angelika Pointer (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) posted a team-best four blocks.
 
Junior setter Staci Hasler (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls) helped set up the offense with 35 assists, while defensive specialists Tessa Weber (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Tremper) and Brittany Robinson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) paced the defense with 12 and 11 digs, respectively.
 
UW-Whitewater extended a three-point advantage to 14-5 on Hasler's serve to take control of the first set.
 
The Warhawks scored the first four points of the second and didn't look back, extending their lead to 16-9 and eventually claiming five of the last six points in the period.
 
In the third, UW-Whitewater ran off four straight points to break open an 18-18 score, then scored three of the last four points in the set to cap the match.
 
Against Edgewood (7-4), the Warhawks were unable to find an offensive rhythm, hitting a season low .112 on attacks.
 
Pfeifer led the offense with eight kills to go along with 15 digs. Freshman outside hitter Kalene Ruemler (Reynolds, Ind./North White) added seven kills, while Wagner tallied five kills and a team-best three blocks.
 
Hasler posted four kills and 16 assists. Robinson paced the defense with 16 digs.
 
UW-Whitewater opens Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Wednesday at No. 24 UW-Oshkosh. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
