The No. 15 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team stormed out to a two-set lead Wednesday night but was unable to claim another set in a 14-25, 15-25, 25-20, 25-22, 15-6 setback at 22nd-ranked UW-Oshkosh in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest.
 
Sophomore right side hitter Sydney Racky (Walworth, Wis./Big Foot) posted 19 kills to lead the Warhawks (10-3 overall, 0-1 WIAC), who finished with a better hitting percentage (.150) than the Titans (.106) but were unable to finish the match after taking the first two sets.
 
Juniors Staci Hasler (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls) and Lauren Pfeifer (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) tallied double-doubles for UW-Whitewater. Hasler finished with 42 assists and 13 digs, while Pfeifer registered 12 kills and 10 digs. Each player finished with three service aces.
 
Freshman defensive specialist Brittany Robinson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) led the defense with a season-best 35 digs. Senior captain Jaclyn Krizka (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) totaled 17 digs, and junior middle hitter Angelika Pointer (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) recorded a team-high three blocks.
 
The Warhawks broke open an 8-8 score in the first set with a 9-1 run to take a 17-9 advantage, and claimed the final five points of the frame.
 
UW-Whitewater scored seven of eight points just after the midway point of the second and finished strong again with five of the last six points to take a two-sets-to-none lead.
 
UW-Oshkosh (13-3, 1-0) led for most of the third set and tallied four of the last five points in the fourth to send the match to a fifth set.
 
The Titans jumped out to a 6-2 advantage, extended it to 9-4 and scored five of the final six points of the contest.
 
The Warhawks return to action this Friday on the first day of the UW-Whitewater Invitational. The team hosts Millikin (Ill.) at 5 p.m. before taking on 25th-ranked Williams (Mass.) at 7 p.m.
 
In between the second and third sets of the Williams match, head coach Stacy Boudreau and UW-Whitewater will recognize the 10th anniversary of the 2005 national championship. Each member of the team in attendance will be recognized and a special presentation will be made by former coach Kris Russell, who retired from coaching following the 2004 season and was at the helm for the program's first national title in 2002.
