Related Links:Coe Box ScoreElmhurst Box Score WHITEWATER – The No. 25 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team wrapped up the 2014-15 regular season Sunday with a pair of dual match victories on Senior Day at Wangerin Courts.
The Warhawks (21-7 overall), who are also ranked sixth in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, defeated 36th-ranked Coe (Iowa) 7-2 to start the day before defeating Elmhurst (Ill.) 8-1 to end it. The Duhawks are eighth in the region, while the Bluejays are ranked 20th.
With the wins, UW-Whitewater sealed its eighth season of 20 or more dual wins in the last nine years.
Against Coe (18-6), the Warhawks posted a strong start in doubles, taking a 3-0 advantage into singles. Senior
Ben Shklyar (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) and junior
Michael Treis (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central), the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the Central Region, downed Riley Galbraith and Brady Anderson, who are slotted sixth, by a 9-7 tally at the first position.
Senior captain
Cam Laktash (Crystal Lake, IL/South) and junior
Jake Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) registered an 8-4 triumph at No. 2, while junior captain
Michael Schnarr (Madison/Memorial) and sophomore
Rithwik Rajshekhar Raman (Chennai, Tamil Nadu-India/SAIDS British Education) posted an 8-2 victory at No. 3.
Treis and freshman
Zane Navratil (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) allowed UW-Whitewater to clinch the match, earning the first two decisions in singles play. Treis was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at the second slot, while Navratil recorded a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at the No. 4 position.
Raman (6-3, 6-1) and Laktash (6-4, 6-0) were next to finish at Nos. 3 and 6, respectively.
In the match against Elmhurst (8-9), UW-Whitewater matched its 3-0 lead from the opener. Humphreys and Laktash teamed for an 8-2 win at the top position. Schnarr and Raman combined for an 8-4 victory at No. 2, while sophomores
Martin Beck (Minneapolis/South) and
Scott Butler (Eagan, MN/Eagan) contributed with an 8-4 triumph at No. 3.
Schnarr extended the lead to four with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles, and Raman sealed the team win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1. Freshman
Matt Zurowski (West Bend, Wis./East) was next to finish, giving the Warhawks a 6-1 lead with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at the sixth position.
Navratil and freshman
Matt Bisbee (Chicago, IL/Marist) wrapped up the contest with straight-set wins.
Prior to the start of the second match, Shklyar and Laktash were recognized for their contributions to the program over the last four years. Laktash is a four-year member of the team, while Shklyar joined UW-Whitewater in 2012 after transferring from Cleveland State University.
Over the last three-plus years, the Warhawks have reached the NCAA Division III Tournament three times.
UW-Whitewater will learn its postseason fate May 4 as the NCAA Tournament field is announced at 11 a.m. on NCAA.com.
