Men’s Tennis Takes Two in Eau Claire

The No. 25 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team earned its 10th Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Final Four Tournament win in the last 11 years Saturday, finishing the weekend with two more victories in Eau Claire, Wis.
 
The Warhawks (19-7), who are also ranked No. 6 in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, defeated UW-La Crosse and UW-Eau Claire by identical 8-1 scores. The Eagles are ranked 14th in the region, while the Blugolds are 15th.

UW-Whitewater finished the weekend 3-0 after downing UW-Oshkosh 9-0 on Friday afternoon.
 
Against UW-La Crosse (20-3), the Warhawks took two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 advantage. Senior Ben Shklyar (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) and junior Michael Treis (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) put UW-Whitewater on the board with an 8-3 triumph at the No. 1 spot. Sophomores Martin Beck (Minneapolis/South) and Scott Butler (Eagan, MN/Eagan) broke the tie with an 8-6 victory at the third position.
 
In singles play, sophomore Rithwik Rajshekhar Raman (Chennai, Tamil Nadu-India/SAIDS British Education) and freshman Zane Navratil (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) gave the Warhawks a 4-1 lead by identical 6-1, 6-1 scores at the Nos. 3 and 4 positions, respectively.
 
Senior captain Cam Laktash (Crystal Lake, IL/South) clinched the match for UW-Whitewater with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the sixth slot.
 
Shklyar was next to finish, posting a 6-1, 6-4 triumph at the fifth position. Treis and junior Jake Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) closed out the match with straight-set victories.
 
In the match against UW-Eau Claire (17-7), Treis and Shklyar earned an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, and Raman combined with junior captain Michael Schnarr (Madison/Memorial) for an 8-4 triumph at the third position.
 
Treis and junior Matt Bisbee (Chicago, IL/Marist) gave UW-Whitewater a 4-1 lead two matches into singles play. Treis tallied a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the second position, while Bisbee registered a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6.
 
Raman sealed the match for the Warhawks at No. 3 with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph. Navratil (6-3, 6-1) and Schnarr (6-3, 6-1) added straight-set victories at the fourth and fifth slots, respectively.
 
Junior Jake Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) accounted for the final margin with a 7-6 (3), 6-0 win at the top spot.
 
UW-Whitewater returns home for a pair of dual matches on Sunday, April 26. The Warhawks will host No. 36 Coe (Iowa) and Elmhurst (Ill.) at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively, on Senior Day at Wangerin Courts. Coe is ranked eighth in the region, while Elmhurst is 20th.
 
Laktash and Shklyar will be recognized between the two matches for their accomplishments at UW-Whitewater.
