Related Links:Box Score The No. 25 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team closed its weekend in St. Louis with a 1-2 record following an 8-1 setback against 13th-ranked Chicago Sunday at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis, Mo.
The Warhawks (16-7 overall), who are also ranked sixth in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, downed No. 19 Texas-Tyler and lost against fifth-ranked Washington-St. Louis Saturday.
The Maroons (13-4), who are fourth in the region, took a 2-1 lead by taking two of three doubles contests. Senior captain
Cam Laktash (Crystal Lake, IL/South) paired with junior
Jake Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) for an 8-3 triumph at the No. 2 position for the Warhawks' point.
Chicago took all six singles matches despite UW-Whitewater pushing a pair of contests to three sets.
Sophomore
Rithwik Rajshekhar Raman (Chennai, Tamil Nadu-India/SAIDS British Education) claimed the first set at No. 4, but was eventually defeated 3-6, 6-2, 6-0. Laktash was outlasted 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 at the fifth position.
In a showdown of two of the Central Region's top players, Humphreys, who is ranked No. 1, fell 6-4, 6-4 against Nicolas Chua, who is third in the region. Chua was ranked first in the nation entering the season.
The Warhawks compete against a trio of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools next week at UW-Eau Claire. UW-Whitewater takes on UW-Oshkosh to start the weekend Friday at 3:30 p.m.
