Related Links:Box Score The No. 25 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team didn't drop a set Saturday in a 9-0 victory over Grinnell (Iowa) on the second day of the Warhawk Invitational at Premier Tennis and Fitness in Janesville.
The Warhawks (7-3 overall) have now won seven straight dual matches after opening the season with three losses against NCAA Division I programs.
The Pioneers (5-4) are ranked 12th in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. UW-Whitewater is slotted seventh.
The Warhawks earned all three doubles points, led by senior
Ben Shklyar (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) and junior
Michael Treis (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central), who picked up an 8-1 triumph at the top position. Senior captain
Cam Laktash (Crystal Lake, IL/South) and freshman
Zane Navratil (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) teamed up for an 8-3 victory at No. 2, while sophomores
Martin Beck (Minneapolis/South) and
Scott Butler (Eagan, MN/Eagan) combined for a win by the identical tally at No. 3.
Shklyar and Laktash were equally as effective in singles play, posting matching 6-2, 6-1 triumphs at the Nos. 3 and 4 slots, respectively. Treis was a 6-4, 6-2 victor at the top spot for UW-Whitewater.
Junior
Matt Bisbee (Chicago, IL/Marist) registered a 6-4, 6-1 win at the fifth position, while sophomore
Rithwik Rajshekhar Raman (Chennai, Tamil Nadu-India/SAIDS British Education) recorded a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 2.
Junior captain
Michael Schnarr (Madison/Memorial) capped the Warhawks' shutout with a 6-4, 6-4, triumph at the sixth slot.
UW-Whitewater looks to continue its win streak this Tuesday with a pair of matches at Premier Tennis and Fitness. The Warhawks take on NAIA and scholarship program Cardinal Stritch at 1 p.m. before facing Edgewood to conclude the day at 5:30 p.m.
