The No. 23 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time in program history Saturday with a 2-1 overtime victory over Illinois Wesleyan in a Round of 16 match at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo.

Sophomore midfielder Marie Lesperance (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South) provided the golden goal in the 95th minute, placing a loose ball into the back of the net for her second consecutive game-winning goal. Senior midfielder Jenna Woodson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) was credited with her sixth assist of the year.

With the victory, the Warhawks (20-4 overall) advance to Sunday's sectional final, where they'll face fourth-ranked Washington-St. Louis, which defeated Wartburg (Iowa) 1-0 in Saturday's other Round of 16 contest.

The winner of Sunday's match, which is set for a 1 p.m. kickoff, will earn a trip to Kansas City, Mo., for the NCAA semifinals on Dec. 4-5 at Swope Park.

With the victory, UW-Whitewater also increased its school record win total to 20 and avenged a 1-0 loss back in September against the Titans (20-3).

The Warhawks struck in the fourth minute of the affair as sophomore forward Morgan Beaty (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) tallied her fourth goal of the season on a misplay in the box.

Illinois Wesleyan responded in the 42nd minute, tying the match with just under three minutes to play in the first half.

The Titans outshot UW-Whitewater 6-1 in the second half, but freshman goalkeeper Erin Doody (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way Central) made five of her career-high 11 saves in the period, including two in the final four minutes of regulation.

Nearly two minutes after a Doody save in the 93rd, Lesperance sent the Warhawks to the national quarterfinals with her eighth goal of the season.
